Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS)
HTTPS is the secure version of HTTP that protects the communications between your browser and server from being intercepted and tampered with by attackers. It’s the successor to SSL, which has been around for over 20 years.
HTTPS uses Transport Layer Security (TLS) to encrypt all traffic between you and a website or app. This protects you against network sniffers like Firesheep, who can see all the information traveling between your computer and a website.
When it comes to connecting to websites, most people use their browser’s built-in private-key encryption feature which uses RSA 2048 bits of key length, but that’s not good enough anymore when you’re dealing with multiple domains and potentially even multiple apps on a single device. You need something stronger than that!
